My mum will laugh when she reads this post title, you see, that is her word for organised. And sometimes it feels like it!
I am a person who fluctuates between that desire to feel super organised, clean, tidy and sorted and one who would really just rather spend time sewing, dreaming and making. From my experience, the two don't often meet!
Last year, for one reason and another, wasn't a great year for me. My struggles weren't dramatic struggles of illness, money or family (and for that I am very grateful) but rather, they were personal struggles. I am hoping to start this year on a different foot and set some things right.
Part of my hopeful strategy is a little more organisation and less procrastination. I have stumbled across a couple of blogs to aid my attempts. The Fly Lady is the first, and whilst I couldn't subscribe to her whole approach, she certainly has given me food for thought. The second is Sunny Mummy. I have had a few laughs as I have read some of her posts and last night I bought and printed off her weekly tasklist. (She even has a School Organiser)

The girls are off to school tomorrow. I figured the new school year was a good time to implement my new plan. Tonight, I sat down and wrote a weekly plan. Not a plan set in concrete, but one to make sure there is time for the gym, the groceries, as well as a bit of sewing. Getting my priorities right will hopefully make this mummy a little more sunny and my life a little more organised, rather than agonised. Here's hoping!

Start of the school year tomorrow! Here's to us being more organised!! One of my goals for the year is to menu plan for the week and try one new recipe a week. I'm going to give it a 100%! All the best :)
I can so relate to your post! I really WANT to be organized, but sometimes lack the know-how and sometimes know how, but just want to set it all aside and sew and create. Good luck with your new inspiration and tools. I love to find reasons for fresh starts -- new year, new school year, new season, new month/week/day. Fresh starts are important.
Oh, I am trying so hard to be organised too. It just makes me feel so much better. I'm off to visit Sunny Mummy now.
Can you schedule me in for next week maybe? XX
Sounds like a great idea. I've started the year (well today at least) feeling very relaxed and hope I can carry it through. I hate being short on school mornings and my goal is to just avoid that. I think being sure to get up at 7am means I'm showered and have made lunches before the girls are up - which makes a huge difference. I'm for anything that keeps the family mood a happy one.
oh Tam - this post makes me laugh because you ALREADY do so much and are super organised! Nevertheless, good luck on 'tightening' your game... (sorry, still getting over the tennis).
I always think I should get more organised but in reality I know it would just frustrate me to have to follow a tight schedule! Finding a balance between chaos and order is a hard battle. Hope you find a way that suits you. Me I think I'll tend towards organised chaos ;)
I love trying to get organized....um, it just never stays that way for long...and by the time one little area is exactly how I like it, another area has been destroyed!
You have a beautiful blog with beautiful pics....It makes me want to go get this place whipped into shape!!!
I just read your post and had to laugh. Seems we are on the same wavelength again. I posted about Flylady last night too. I know for me I've been looking forward to school going back so I can get organised (agonised). It's that time of year. Off to check out Sunny Mummy now.
I can really relate to this post as for the past few weeks I've been trying to come up with some sort of weekly plan myself. Back when I was working full time, housework was a Saturday job. Now that I'm a stay-at-home Mum, I'm trying to come up with a system where I do a little bit each day. I've found Shannon Lush's 'Speedcleaning' book helpful. Am off to check out Sunny Mummy...
It never struck me much that your two daughters are the two halves to your personality. E being the one who loves to sew and dream, K being the one who must have things organised and neat and tidy. Hope the organisation goes well, I need to get onto it as well.
Dear Tamara: I have the same "problem"! Why the days are only 24h? I was trying to sew this morning and the little want wanted to play at the same time... so I was trying to sing and play while sewing... the result was terrible... so yes, I agree with you, we can't do everything we want at the same time!! Thinking of you! XOXO Eva
oh how you speak my language! it's so good to know others feel the same. i am very much the same character with two sides...my desire to be organised is shamefully lagging behind these days even more so i have my little one. but i know things will settle in time and it's great to aspire to get the balance...love the task sheet. but then i always loved devising revision timetables...doing the revision on the other hand..! xX
Hey I love your new header!! Very swish. Just dropping by to see if you were 'doin' it' again.
